What is Verified Gross Mass (VGM)?
Effective from July 2016 container will no longer be allowed to be loaded on board vessels unless its Verified Gross Mass (VGM) has been submitted to port terminal prior to the load list cut-off date.The new regulation by the IMO (International Maritime Organization) is to increase maritime safety and reduce the dangers to cargo and containers.
Calculating of Verified Gross Mass
Calculation of Verified Gross Mass (VGM) is the cargo weight of the cargo + packaging weight + container tare weight.
How much weight can be load into container?
Weight specification was stated on every shipping container right door panel.
– Max gross weight (Cargo weight + Container weight)
– Tare weight (Container weight only)
– Max cargo weight (Cargo nett weight only)
– Cubic meter capacity (m3 / cbm)
What does Cargo Worthy mean?
Cargo Worthy is a criterion that the condition of shipping container is deemed suitable for cargo transportation. Interior minimum of scratching and minor surface rust. Floor minor delamination and container might have repaired.
